Classic Hue for A Classic You: Incorporating Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year Into Your Home Decor

Every year, different industries wait for Pantone’s Color of the Year announcement. From graphic design and product packaging to fashion and home furnishing, the influence of the Color of the Year is readily seen.

Ahead of the start of not just a New Year but a new decade, the Pantone Color Institute has announced that its 2020 Color of the Year is PANTONE 19-4052, also known as Classic Blue.

It’s reminiscent of the color of the sky at dusk, as the organization says, or a bowl of perfectly ripe blueberries. It’s also described as a color that “brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit” which makes it a perfect color for your furniture and other items at home.

If you want to incorporate this classic hue into your interior home decor but don’t know how, we have a few ideas on where to start.

1. Classic Blue Furniture

Want to incorporate the Color of the Year in a large and dramatic way? Make it the color of a huge piece of furniture. The living room sofa is a great piece to work with. Since the room and the piece of furniture are already associated with relaxation, the calming classic blue is a color perfectly suited for the sofa and for the area in general.

2. Classic Blue Bathroom

If you want to achieve a Mediterranean-inspired look in your bathroom, the Color of the Year is your friend. You can either place classic blue cabinetry under your bathroom sink or make one wall pop using tiles in this hue. You can even put up a classic blue-colored shower curtain for a cooler effect when you bathe.

3. Classic Blue AccentsBlue accents on the house

For a more subtle approach to adding the Color of the Year at home, you can use it as an accent color, instead. Purchase a handmade modern rug with hints of classic blue from an online store, hunt for wall art that primarily uses this color, or throw in some throw pillows in this classic hue—your choice of accents is vast.

4. Classic Blue Kitchen

You can always repaint your kitchen walls or cabinetry a classic blue color, but if you want to be more subtle, your kitchen has numerous items that will look cooler in this color. The Color of the Year can appear in the handles of your kitchen knife set, your display of delicate china, or the upholstery of your dining chairs.

5. Classic Blue Bedroom

Want to fall asleep and wake up in a cozy room? Use the Color of the Year together with another classic—white—to create a tranquil space. Blue walls with white molding and wall trim give off a tranquil vibe. Take it a step further and cover your mattress with white sheets and white-and-blue blanket and pillowcases. Top it all off with a white, gauzy hanging canopy and you’ll feel like royalty every time you lay your head down to sleep.

The classic hue of this year’s Pantone Color of the Year grants you a myriad of ways to incorporate it into your home decor. With a little creativity and a lot of vision, you can keep your home decor on-trend throughout the year.
