Site Changes…Please Read
Posted on 02.06.2007 in Site News & Updates, Television News and The L Word |As you all know, I avoid posting my thoughts on The L Word here as it is a fansite about Mia Kirshner, not a message board pertaining the show itself and up until now I’ve been able to contain my disdain for the show. Well, I cannot contain it any longer and the time has come for me to say something and what I have to say is not so nice, so, as a courtesy to those of you who are dedicated you are to the show, Ilene Chaiken and/or the character of Jenny, I will put what I have to say behind a cut below and you can either read it or not read it. I’ll leave that up to you.
For those of you who choose not to continue reading, the short version of what needs to be said is that I can no longer support The L Word and as of today there will not be any new screencaps or video clips beyond episode 4.05 added to the site, at least not for now anyway.
Now, on to the commentary…
I haven’t been a fan of the show or Jenny since mid-season 2, but I managed to stick with it until now because of Mia and this site. As the Season 4 premiere drew near, I looked upon it with a sense of dread, but thought that I might still be able to continue to support it because I’m also a big fan of Dallas Roberts and Daniela Sea and was looking forward to seeing what happened with their characters, but the few hopes that I held onto about anything good or interesting or exciting happening with their characters have already been squashed within the first 5 episodes.
I knew beforehand that Jenny would be hard to stomach, but I didn’t realize how utterly repulsive she would become until I watched the first few episodes. Now that I’ve seen the despicable things that have happened with the character in the last 2 episodes, I’m afraid that I can no longer stand by the show or continue to support it through this website.
I am also just disgusted with the show itself, the way things with Mia’s character have been handled throughout the course of the series and the way the women and men on the show have been portrayed in general. One would think that a show about a group of women, their friendships, romantic relationships, struggles in life, etc. would have strong writing and wonderful stories to tell, right? Add an amazing cast to the mix and the chances of it being phenomenal are even higher, right? Wrong. There has been nothing but sheer character assassination since Season 2 and it’s been going nowhere but down the toilet with each passing episode. It’s so painful to watch these actors’ talent slowly being snuffed out on a weekly basis and I for one just can’t stand by and watch it anymore.
There is an entire laundry list of other reasons behind this decision, but I feel like I’ve covered the main points well enough for now. I know this is disappointing for you guys and I apologize for that, but I also hope you will understand nevertheless.

I didn’t watch season 5, so I don’t know what the outcome of her character was. I was so disgusted by her character in the beginning of season 4 that I haven’t been able to watch any other episodes since then.

I used to hate Jenny up until Season 5. That’s when I started to actually like her. She was so funny this time around. I agree with you though about Season 4. I couldn’t stand her. However, in Season 5, her character was so over the top and full of herself that it made her hilarious. Maybe you should give it another try. You might like it.

Thanks for the comment, Christina. I might end up giving it another shot once the S5 DVDs come out since a few of you have said that her character is actually quite funny because she’s so out there. ![]()
