Exclusive: Producer Talks 30 Days of Night: Dark Days From the Set

Posted on November 24, 2009 by Stef in 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, Film News

Dread Central hit the set of Sony’s 30 Days of Night: Dark Days earlier this month – the film wraps principal photography today in Vancouver, Canada, under the watchful eye of co-scripter (with Steve Niles) and director Ben Ketai – and while there sat down with producer JR Young (among others) to discuss the flick (cast interviews to come).

“This is a very edgy film,” Young, who previously produced The Messengers, told Dread while intently watching a scene being played out in video village – a scene which featured a rather hysterical and bloody actress (Katherine Isabelle) pleading for her life. “Ben knows this world. I think it comes natural to him.”

Starring Kiele (A Perfect Getaway) Sanchez, Mia (De Palma’s The Black Dahlia) Kirschner, Rhys (“Entourage”) Coiro, Diora (Night of the Demons) Baird, Harold (“Lost”) Perrineau, Troy (A Marine Story) Ruptash, Jackson Berlin, John De Santis, Marco Sorian, Monique (Cabin in the Woods) Ganderton, and the previously-mentioned horror-fave Katherine (Ginger Snaps, “Supernatural”) Isabelle, Dark Days appears poised according to Young to be a rather faithful adaptation of Niles’ graphic novel of the same name.

30 Days of Night: Dark Days Cast Comes Together

Posted on October 20, 2009 by Stef in 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, Film News

Mia Kirshner, Rhys Coiro, Harold Perrineau (Lost), Diora Baird (Night of the Demons) and Monique Ganderton are joining the cast of 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, the sequel to 2007’s 30 Days of Night.

Kirshner (The L Word) is reportedly set to play the vampire known as Lilith. Coiro (soon to be seen in the Straw Dogs remake) is taking a leading role. It still unknown who is locked for the role of Stella, previously played by Melissa George.

Ben Ketai is directing this sequel and is working from a script by Steve Niles. The story follows a lonely and desperate woman (Stella) who joins a group of rogue vampire hunters to seek revenge on the bloodsuckers responsible for an attack on her tiny Alaska town.

CSI: NY 6.04 screencaps

Posted on October 18, 2009 by Stef in CSI: NY, Gallery Updates

I’ve just updated the gallery with screencaps of Mia’s appearance in episode 6.04 of CSI: NY. She was great as always and Rose Rollins even made an appearance in the episode. They weren’t in any scenes together, but it was neat to see them in the same ep nonetheless.

Another new look and other stuff

Posted on September 30, 2009 by Stef in Site News & Updates

I decided to change things up again with another new theme that was more personalized than the last one. I hope you guys will like it. :)

Please accept my apologies again for the lack of updates over recent months. As you know, my online time has been extremely limited and I’m still not sure when things will slow down enough for me to focus on regular updates. I’ve got tons of stuff to add that I’ve collected and that some of you have sent in and I’d love to get it all online, it just takes a lot of time to sort through things and add them and it’s time that I just don’t have right now. I will do my best to get at least a few things added soon though.

Would anyone be interested in becoming a news staffer to help keep the news section updated? It wouldn’t be a lot of work, as there’s not a lot going on with Mia at the moment, but it would be super helpful. Just email me if you’re interested at miakirshneronline@gmail.com and we can go over the details.

Mia Kirshner’s fundraiser for I-live-here

Posted on August 28, 2009 by Stef in I Live Here, Public Appearances

I had the pleasure of meeting Mia Kirshner on Saturday, Aug 22. She was hosting a fundraiser for her charity, I-live-here.

It was a wonderful event for a great cause.

Mia Kirshner is an actress who starred in Showtime’s, “The L Word” for six years. She has been in numerous films and TV movies. Not only is she a brilliant actress, but a devoted humanitarian as well. She is very passionate about the work she is doing, which I find very admirable.

I-live-here is a book that she started about eight years ago. It’s a paper documentary about heart wrenching stories from four areas in the world that are having big problems. Chechnya, (is in midst of a war) Burma (ethnic cleansing), Mexico (globalization) and Malawi (AIDS). The book (which is four books inside a hard cover book that folds up) is told from the people in these countries. It’s their stories, and Mia and her team are bringing this to our attention. The things that are going on over there, shouldn’t be.

Right now there is a Humanitarian Emergency situation in Malawi. Conditions have worsened since Mia was last there a few years ago. Most people probably don’t even know this is going on…..

AfterEllen Interview with Mia Kirshner

Posted on August 20, 2009 by Stef in I Live Here, Interviews, The L Word

Who killed Jenny Schecter? A mere five months ago, that was the burning question on lesbian lips in living rooms and local bars from Los Angeles to Little Falls, New Jersey.

Mia Kirshner (Miss Conception, The Black Dahlia, 24) — the astonishing actor who played Jenny, and managed to find the humanity in a character known for uttering, “Adele, the appliqué on the back of your jeans was declared an abomination by the Geneva Convention,” and other psychotic bon mots — is in fact a thoughtful woman who’d rather spend time with her friends than bask in the spotlight of Hollywood.

After a record six years as Showtime’s longest running original series, The L Word finally ended in March, putting our love-to-hate relationship with Jenny Schecter to rest, not to mention relieving us of those annoying alliterations.

What many people don’t know is, all that time, Mia was also focused on humanitarian issues, and in October, 2008, she published her first book, I Live Here, a collection of “visually stunning” narratives told through journals, stories and images, by refugees and displaced people from around the world.
