New ‘I Live Here’ Information and photos
Posted on 08.14.2008 in I Live Here | 0 CommentsI received an email from a publicist from Pantheon earlier tonight with the following information and photos pertaining to I Live Here and wanted to share them with you guys. I cannot wait for the release of this book!
I LIVE HERE (Pantheon Books/October 14, 2008/$29.95) is a visually stunning paper documentary, in which the lives of refugees and displaced people become at once personal and universal. It is a raw and intimate journey to crises in four corners of the world: war in Chechnya, ethnic cleansing in Burma, globalization in Mexico, and AIDS in Malawi.
The voices we encounter are those of displaced women and children, told in their own words or by noted writers and artists, including Joe Sacco, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Phoebe Gloeckner, Chris Abani, and many others. Threaded throughout these accounts is Mia Kirshner’s intimate travel narrative, brought vividly to life in collaboration with writer J.B. MacKinnon and designers Paul Shoebridge and Michael Simons.
This groundbreaking book is but one element of a larger project known as the I Live Here Foundation, committed to establishing creative writing programs for marginalized people. Further information is available at i-live-here.com.
Mia article in Glamour - September 2008
Posted on 08.13.2008 in I Live Here, Interviews and Media Alerts | 0 CommentsThere is a 2 page article in the September 2008 issue of Glamour magazine (Penelope Cruz on the cover) about Mia and her work on her book I Live Here. I picked it up yesterday and it’s a really great, though rather short, read and includes photos and artwork from the book. I will have scans available as soon as I can, though it may be a little while as I am having some issues with my scanner and I’m getting ready to move in a couple of weeks.
Thanks to Johanna for the heads up on this. ![]()

Posted on 07.31.2008 in Film News and Miss Conception | 0 CommentsFirst Look Studios proudly announces the DVD release of MISS CONCEPTION. Written by Camilla Leslie and directed by Eric Styles, MISS CONCEPTION follows baby-crazed Georgina Scott (Heather Graham, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me) as she races against her ticking biological clock to conceive a child through unconventional, but comedic methods. The DVD is in stores August 5, 2008 at an SRP of $24.98.
Georgina Scott is a broody 33 year-old, who sends her boyfriend, Zak, (Tom Ellis) packing when it has become apparent that he doesn’t share her desire for a bundle of joy. Zak sets off on a documentary shoot in hopes that she’ll cool off in his absence. But Georgina discovers that early menopause runs in her family and heads for a specialist with her reluctant best friend, Clem (Mia Kirshner, “The L Word”), in tow. Learning that her baby making days are numbered, Georgina enlists Clem and their camp pal, Justin (Orlando Seale), to make the most of it. A battle plan is drawn up but their escapades become increasingly frantic as Georgina explores internet sperm donors, night clubbers, a love struck co-worker and funeral-goers in her desperate and hilarious attempts to beat the biological clock.
