Actress puts MIT class behind the camera
Nishima Chudasama held open the shop door for the man with the haunted eyes and bird’s nest beard and wondered about his life. Then she stopped wondering and started finding out.
Chudasama, a resource analyst in the Industrial Liaison Program, approached the man near the T station in Central Square and asked permission to interview him on camera for a short film project. He agreed.
Chudasama’s initiative was the result of the IAP class, “I Live Here (A Human Rights Multimedia Project),” led by actress and author Mia Kirshner. The class encouraged participants to seek out untold stories in the Boston area and turn them into two-minute films.

Mia is featured in yet another new magazine! She’s currently featured on the cover of and inside the February 2009 issue of Chatelaine magazine. Doesn’t she look so lovely? I can’t wait to get a copy. Unfortunately this is a Canadian magazine and I don’t have access to it either, but I will get a copy for the site just as soon as I can.

Mia teaching a course at MIT

I’m a few days late in posting this, but Mia is teaching at 2 week IAP course at MIT on the following dates: January 20, 22, 27 and 29. How exciting! Unfortunately I live no where near MIT so I won’t be able to attend, but I hope some of you will be able to make it. Click here for full details, directions and more. Mirroring the multimedia approach of the book, this two-week course will ask you to create your own short video based on hidden stories that need to be heard within your own greater Boston community. The results will be featured on the I Live Here website, which links to Amnesty International’s homepage and the MIT Center for International Studies website. They will also be shown at a MIT public event with Mia Kirshner at the end of January.

Mia in Jane and Jane magazine

A big thanks to Candice for letting me know that Mia is featured on the cover and in the current issue of Jane and Jane magazine. I’ve never seen this mag in stores, so I will most likely have to order it, but as soon as I get a copy in my hot little hands, scans will be added to the gallery.

In sharp contrast to her navel-gazing character on The L Word, Mia Kirshner has no problem thinking globally. Jane and Jane caught up to the actress in Austin, Texas, on her book tour for I Live Here, a “paper documentary” benefiting Amnesty International.

I just wanted to let you all know that you now need to log into the gallery to view any of the photos. The reason behind this change is due to the nudity and sexual content contained in some of the albums. There’s nothing wrong with nudity or sexual content in general, but in consideration of parents like myself who may not want their children stumbling upon that kind of content, I thought it might be best to make the change.
